This photo is based on the old Jewish myth of Lilith and Eve.

Lilith was Adams first wife, until she asked for equality (well, she asked to go on top) because they were both created from dust, and therefore should be treated as equals. Adam said that she was created for him, so he should do as he wanted, and so she ran away. Three angels followed after her and told her to come back. She said no. Now she gives birth to hundreds and hundreds of baby demons (lilin) every single day, and kills your babies unless you have the special amulet with the three angels names on it, as she promised the angels not to kill any babies that had it.

Eve was then brought in as a replacement (made from Adams rib, so that she would be more subservient) but then lilith went in and ruined that too by giving her the apple, disguised as the snake (this is, apparently, why sometimes you see the snake portrayed as half woman half snake.)

I’m not religious in the slightest. I just thought this was an interesting example of how far back the Maddonna/whore classification of women went back (this story is from the 8th century). It basically teaches that you can be either subservient and good, or a huge slut and evil (the Succubi and incubi that come and have sex with you in your sleep are later reincarnations of Lilith and her lilin). But either way girls are stupid and can be tricked into screwing it up for everyone.

This myth is not part of current Jewish culture. It’s discredited now as possibly being made up way back when as anti-jewish satire. But either way, the Jewish mystics in medieval Germany at least believed in it, and you can see similar themes running through every part of every religion, and a hell of a lot of other things really.

Reposting just these two. Some random woman, who may or may not be my tutor, I don’t even know, she was just in my crit, but anyway, she said she loved the feet one. I really like the feet one too. I maybe wouldn’t go as far as love though, because my feet are pretty gross. Hence the picture of them.

I think these work together pretty well as just a set on their own too.

I really wanna do more shots like these, so if anyone wants to let me shoot them naked, let me know ;)

Here I am. On a train. Late as always, eating a possibly gone off egg and cress sandwich, all around me children are swearing at each other and throwing stuff at each other and generally reminding me why I never want to squeeze one of the little bastards out.

Also, because I am late, and this train is also running late, I get the joy of watching as the light slowly disappears and with it the hopes of an easy and less stressful photoshoot in Leeds. Fml fml fml.

I’ve been thinking for the past few days about unfollowing some people. I want my dash to be full of photographers and fashion and photography blogs and a tiny bit of cats. I don’t want to see reblogs of the same shitty stuff like this over and over and over again.

But at the same time, most of the people who post this stuff follow me, and I followed them back out of politeness. I feel mean if I don’t follow people back who follow me. How do I get over my tumblr unfollow guilt, tumblr?

The people that annoy me most in the world are people who say they hate an artist without giving a real and valid reason. Like right now it seems popular to totally hate on Martin Parr, but why?! I think I’ve only actually ever heard one person that hates him give a good reason for hating him, and they just said that they just generally don’t like that kind of photography. But I know some people who hate him, and then go on to say they love a photographer who is almost exactly the same. Why? Just cause it’s cool? Pointless.

Same with Daimien Hirst. I mean, I hate Daimien Hirst. But people seem to love to go ‘Oh what a dick!’ without even really understanding why he is a dick (hint: he rips off other peoples work. And the only good things he’s ever done is “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living” and “Mother and Child Divided”. The rest is just shit and/or rip offs. Also he is a really really horrible person, as he actually sued a 16 year old kid for using a picture of his shitty skull in a collage that the kid then sold on the internet. I mean really, after you ripped off so many other artists work you are going to sue some little kid for £200?!)

People just love to jump on the bandwagon.

Also for the record, I think Martin Parr is great. I love crazy people. Anyone who obsessively collects trashy looking tea-trays, postcards and tea towels is okay by me.

I knew this was Martin Parr as soon as I saw the image.

I think he is a very unoriginal artist and all his photographs look like snap shots from a film camera he got in Boots. There is no attention to anything in his work and that shows by the lack of creativity throughout.

I normally don’t reply to stuff like this but this was sorta too hilarious. You recognise who he is straight away and so therefore he is unoriginal? It’s what happens when photographers have a very unique style, and the fact that you can glance at a photo of a tea cup and instantly recognise it as Martin Parr means he is doing his job really fucking well. Especially seen as you don’t even like him but can still recognise his work.

Yes the colours are all insane in Martin Parrs work, but have you ever been to the British seaside? The colours are used for a reason. The colours imply the tacky and weird feeling that the British seaside has, and Martin Parr is very good at capturing that feeling.

I don’t even know what to say to your comment of ‘there is no attention to anything’ like honestly, that just blows my mind that you would look at his work and think that could even slightly be the case. Just wow. Really wow.

And then of course you went on to do the classic, something I even described in the post, moving on to name a lesser known photographer who does similar stuff, well done, bravo, beautiful!

And I have now finally lowed myself to arguing with someone on the internet about photography. Thanks Tumblr.

FEELS WEIRD.

In more photography related things, I’m really excited about the project I’m doing at the minute. Since I’m redoing, I’ve decided I’m going to actually put the effort into my work this year! Otherwise it’s all pretty pointless to redo isn’t it? So yes. Hopefully if it all turns out well, I’ll have some images I’m actually proud of soonish. That’ll be good :3
